1. Program Overview
The 2026 KNU Summer School at Kyungpook National University offers international students an enriching blend of Korean language learning and immersive cultural experiences in Daegu, South Korea.
2. Academic Details
- Credits: Participants earn 3 academic credits upon successful completion (Course Title: "Global Culture").
- Language Classes: Students will be placed in either Basic (learning the alphabet/simple greetings) or Intermediate (simple sentences/daily interactions) Korean language classes.
- Grading: Transcripts are issued in late September with an 'S' (Satisfactory) or 'U' (Unsatisfactory) grade based on participation in classes and cultural activities.
3. Cultural Activities
The program includes a diverse range of immersive experiences, such as:
- Daegu City Tour (Palgong Mountain, Suseong Lake, E-world, etc.)
- Industrial Tour to the Hyundai Motors Factory
- Temple Stay at Donghwasa Temple
- Taekwondo, Samulnori (traditional percussion), Tea Ceremony, and K-Food Cooking classes
- Attending a Samsung Lions baseball game
4. Financial Details
- Program Fee: USD 1,200 (Special Partner University Rate for IITM students).
- Payment Deadline: May 4, 2026 (via bank transfer only).
- Refund Policy: 100% refund by May 31; strictly non-refundable from June 1 onwards.
5. Accommodation (Campus Dormitory)
- Facilities: Automatic placement in an on-campus dormitory (double occupancy with twin beds; no single rooms).
- Check-in Date: July 31, 2026 (10:00 AM to 5:00 PM). Early or late check-in is NOT permitted.
- Rules: Strict curfew applies from 1:00 AM to 5:00 AM. Roommates are randomly assigned by gender.
6. Mandatory Requirements
Students must prepare the following critical documents:
- Tuberculosis (TB) Test: A mandatory negative TB test result (X-ray, skin, or blood test) issued within two months prior to the check-in date.
- Health Insurance: Minimum coverage of $20,000 for medical benefits and $10,000 for repatriation/evacuation. Certificate due by July 1, 2026.
- Visa: Students will need to apply for a D-2-8 Visiting Student Visa once they receive the Certificate of Admission in June 2026.
7. Application Processes and Deadlines
📅 IITM Internal Nomination Deadline: April 10, 2026
- Step 1: Apply for internal nomination through the IITM Office of Global Engagement.
- Step 2: Once nominated by IITM, complete the online application and payment by May 4, 2026.
- Note: Acceptances are on a first-come, first-served basis due to class size limitations.
