3. Financial Support

Selected applicants will be offered the MEXT Scholarship, which provides comprehensive financial support:

  • Master’s course students: 147,000 JPY per month.
  • PhD course students: 148,000 JPY per month.
  • Tuition: The tuition fee at The University of Osaka will be entirely exempt for scholarship recipients.

4. Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Nationality & Visa: Must be a non-Japanese national who is expected to obtain a student visa upon enrollment.
  • Master's Applicants: Must have received a bachelor’s degree or be expected to graduate from a university/college prior to the date of enrollment.
  • PhD Applicants: Must have received a master’s degree or be expected to complete a master’s course curriculum prior to the date of enrollment.
  • Language Ability: Applicants are required to have a sufficient understanding of English.

  • Program Start Date: October 1, 2027.

6. Unique Program Features

A major advantage of this application process is that candidates do not have to travel to Japan for the screening process. All interviews and assessments are conducted entirely online via Zoom.

7. Key Screening Timelines

  • Document Screening: Completed by the middle of December 2026.
  • Interview Screening: Online interviews will be held by the middle of January 2027.
  • Results Announcement: Final selections will be announced by the end of January 2027.
