1. Program Overview

The Office of Global Engagement, IIT Madras, is pleased to invite applications for the University of Tsukuba student exchange program titled “Tackling Unmet Medical Needs: Japan-India Collaboration and Multicultural Synergy Driving Healthcare Innovation.” This initiative provides an incredible opportunity for undergraduate students to engage in medical science research.

2. Program Details & Dates

Under this initiative, the University of Tsukuba will host two undergraduate students from IIT Madras for the Medical Science Program.

  • Start Date: August 23, 2026
  • Duration: Approximately 5 weeks (in conjunction with the Summer Research Program (SRP) 2026)
  • Funding: Selected students will qualify to be considered for the JASSO scholarship.
  • Note: A separate call for an Engineering Program (taking place in Nov/Dec 2026) will be announced later this year.

3. Eligibility Criteria

Interested undergraduate students must strictly meet the following host university requirements:

  • Major in natural or physical sciences, including engineering.
  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Maintain valid student status at IIT Madras until at least December 30, 2026.
  • Hold a passport valid until at least April 30, 2027.
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in medical science research and/or future postgraduate studies at the University of Tsukuba.

4. Mandatory Course Obligations

Students selected for this program will be required to participate in two of the three online courses offered under this initiative during the Fall 2026 semester. (Students interested in future exchange opportunities under this collaboration will also be expected to complete these courses as part of the selection process. Syllabi will be available by late June).

5. Application Process
