An interdisciplinary master’s degree at IIT Madras will serve to build a generation of students trained for present-day careers at the interfaces of traditional engineering and science disciplines. The program brings together innovative curricula with IIT Madras’ award-winning pedagogy and research methodology. The world is moving towards a future where engineers cut across traditional domains in their expertise and skills. The boundaries between various engineering disciplines are dissolving, and solutions to current-day problems necessarily involve collaborations between experts in a host of fields. The I2MP program precisely aims to bridge the boundaries between various disciplines and train individuals for a holistic approach.

There are ten interdisciplinary degrees on offer. The two-year program is specially crafted for highly motivated top-tier international Science and Engineering students interested in an interdisciplinary master’s degree. In the recent past, the interdisciplinary degree students have been remarkably successful in bridging gaps and exploring these synergies.

We encourage students to determine an interdisciplinary area that matches well with their undergraduate degree and their own interest, and apply accordingly. These IIT Madras master’s degrees require a 4+ year undergraduate degree in Engineering or a Master's in Science and demonstrated competence in English. Applicants must be citizens of foreign countries (non-Indian).

Applications are open until April. If shortlisted, you may expect to attend online interviews in May-Jun. The final selections will be announced by mid-June. The program duration is for two years.

The I2MP program is intended to produce graduates with up-to-date and fundamental understanding of real life applications by integrating various engineering disciplines. This program aims to produce graduates who are ready to hit the ground running in industry, as well as foster new knowledge and evolve leadership in research and entrepreneurship. The program also provides exciting possibilities to explore the option of further studies as an excellent fit for application-oriented product development. Furthermore, depending on the path the students build for themselves, they are expected to be placed in most of the highly ranked private and public sector companies. The students could pursue a career in the R&D group and/or Analysis and Design groups of these industries.
