The KOSPIE Scholarship Programme 2026-2027 for M.Tech scholars from IITs funds master's thesis research at TU9 German technical universities (RWTH Aachen, TU Dresden, etc.). Full DAAD scholarship + 1-month German language course for eligible IIT Madras M.Tech 2nd semester / Dual Degree 8th semester students (min 8.5 CGPA).

1. Program Overview

  • Duration: Thesis research starting 1 September 2026 + 1-month German course
  • Location: 6 TU9 universities in Germany (Aachen, Braunschweig, Dresden, Darmstadt, Stuttgart, Hannover)
  • Level: M.Tech 2nd semester / Integrated/Dual Degree 8th semester
  • Minimum CGPA: 8.5 required
  • Language: English (research) + German course provided

2. About the Program

Exclusive DAAD scholarship based on IIT-TU9 MoU enables IIT M.Tech scholars to conduct master's thesis research at leading German technical universities. Builds research collaboration between IITs and TU9 consortium (9 top technical universities in Germany).

3. Financial Support

  • 💰 Full DAAD scholarship (monthly stipend, travel, insurance)
  • 🇩🇪 1-month German language course at host TU (free)
  • 📚 Tuition waiver at German host university
  • Note: Accommodation arranged by student (TUs may not guarantee housing)

4. Program Tracks

Single Thesis Research Track: Master's thesis work under German professor supervision at participating TU9 universities.

5. Eligibility Criteria

  • IIT Madras students only: M.Tech 2nd semester OR Integrated/Dual Degree 8th semester
  • Minimum CGPA: 8.5
  • Acceptance Letter: Confirmed from German professor REQUIRED
  • Eligible Nationalities: Indian, Nepali, Bangladeshi nationals enrolled at IITs

6. Program Structure

  • Month 1: German language course at host TU
  • Research Phase: Master's thesis work with German supervisor
  • Start Date: 1 September 2026
  • Participating TUs: RWTH Aachen, TU Braunschweig, TU Dresden, TU Darmstadt, Univ. Stuttgart, Leibniz Univ. Hannover

  1. Secure Host Professor: Contact German professors at participating TUs, get confirmed acceptance letter
  2. DAAD Portal: Apply online at DAAD Portal (opens 20 Feb 2026)
  3. IIT Dean Ranking: DAAD sends eligible list to IIT Dean (31 Mar), ranking due 7 Apr 2026
