Dear Students,

We are pleased to share an excellent opportunity for PhD scholars in Humanities and Social Sciences to apply for the Inlaks–King’s India Institute Studentship 2025, offered jointly by the Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation and King’s College London.

Eligibility

  • The applicant must be an Indian passport holder residing in India.
  • The applicant must be born on or after 1st January 1990.
  • The applicant must hold a confirmed PhD registration for at least two years but for not more than three years.
  • The applicant must have a first-class Bachelor’s and Master’s degree.
  • The applicant's research must be in the subjects related to Humanities and Social Sciences.
  • The applicant must have proof of positive communication from the experts that they wish to engage with.

Funding & Benefits:

  • Travel allowance (up to USD 1,000, reimbursable on actuals)
  • Maintenance allowance (up to USD 2,220 per month)
  • Research material/copying expenses (up to USD 500)
  • Health allowance (up to USD 500)
  • On arrival support: GBP 1,000 (in addition to Inlaks support)
  • Access to King’s College libraries, facilities, and mentorship from experts

Selection Process:

  • Round 1: Desk review and shortlisting
  • Round 2: Online interviews (September shortlist → October interviews)
  • Applicants short-listed for interviews will be informed by late September 2025; final interviews will be held in mid-October 2025.

Following Selection:

  • The successful applicant must make a formal application to the King’s India Institute as a Visiting Research Student through the King’s College London application procedure for the duration of the grant.

  • The successful candidate should also apply for a visa as per the UK government guidelines: Standard Visitor Visa – GOV.UK.

Terms and Conditions:

  • The visit should be completed between January 2026 and June 2026 for a maximum period of 3 months.
  • Of the two grantees, at least one will work with a core academic faculty member at the King’s India Institute. An extended network of affiliated faculty is also available.
  • Any material collected (photocopies, literature, etc.) must become the property of the applicant’s institution for future scholars.
  • All material must carry a statement acknowledging the ‘Inlaks–King’s India Institute Studentship’ support.
  • A written report (in prescribed format) must be submitted to the Inlaks Foundation within a month of return.

Exclusions:

Candidates may apply for either the Inlaks–King’s India Institute Studentship or the Inlaks Research & Travel Grant (IRTG) in a given year, not both.
