Mandatory Travel Insurance
CRITICAL: All foreign visitors must purchase travel insurance through the official Zanzibar Insurance Corporation portal. This policy is mandatory, even if you already have personal travel insurance. Avoid third-party websites.
- Cost: US $44 for most visitors; US $22 for SADC citizens & children 3–17; free under 3.
- Coverage: Valid up to 92 days. Includes medical emergencies, accidents, repatriation, and lost baggage.
Visa Requirements
U.S. citizens: Require a multiple-entry visa (about US $100).
Most other nationalities: Can obtain a single-entry visa (about US $50) or apply for an eVisa.
💡 Tip: Apply online in advance to avoid long airport delays.
Health Requirements
A Yellow Fever vaccination card is required if arriving from or transiting through an endemic country. It is recommended to carry proof regardless of origin.
Currency & Payments
- Tanzanian Shilling (TZS) is the official currency.
- USD is widely accepted in tourist areas.
- Euro and GBP are accepted in major hotels.
- Use TZS for local shops and transport.
- Cards are accepted but may include fees—carry some cash.

Power supply is 230 V with UK-style (Type G) plugs. Bring a suitable travel adapter for your devices.
