Padma Shri Prof. Ashutosh Sharma is the President of the Indian National Science Academy and Institute Chair Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at IIT Kanpur. A distinguished scientist and pioneer in nanoscience and nanotechnology, he has made significant contributions to research, innovation, and science policy.

As Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology (2015–2021), he led several national initiatives in emerging domains such as artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, clean energy, and innovation ecosystems. He launched outreach programs like Vigyan Jyoti and INSPIRE to attract students to science. He supported women in STEM through programs like WISE (Women in Science and Engineering).

Over the years, his work has earned him numerous honors, including the prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award, the Infosys Prize, and most recently, the Padma Shri in 2025, one of the highest civilian ;honors in India. With over 350 publications to his credit and a legacy of global recognition, Prof. Sharma continues to inspire scientists, students, and policymakers alike.
