Program Overview

This MSc, offered jointly by Swansea University and IIT Madras, provides exceptional students with a unique opportunity to gain world-class expertise in materials and manufacturing.

By studying across two leading institutions in the UK and India, you will experience a truly global, multidisciplinary environment that combines advanced academic knowledge with practical industry-focused skills, preparing you for impactful careers in cutting-edge manufacturing and sustainability.

This programme equips you with advanced knowledge and skills in the development, characterisation and processing of materials within modern manufacturing contexts, connecting materials science fundamentals with manufacturing technologies, such as additive manufacturing, automation and digital manufacturing.

In addition to credit-bearing modules at both IITM and Swansea University, you will undertake a substantial 60-credit research dissertation, applying theoretical understanding and technical expertise to real-world challenges.

These projects are conducted in collaboration with Swansea University’s Materials and Manufacturing Research Institute (M2RI), IIT Madras’ School of Interdisciplinary Studies (SIDiS), and industry partners. Together, they will provide you with hands-on experience in areas such as materials testing and characterisation, process optimisation, computational modelling and product development, developing highly relevant skills which will open career opportunities in industry and academia.

Your Experience

This joint master's is designed to develop you into a future leader in sustainable engineering and technology, through a global, interdisciplinary learning environment.

The programme aims to equip you with advanced knowledge of sustainable engineering principles, renewable energy systems and circular economy strategies.
