About the Program
Education is emerging as one of the top focuses of all the developing nations around the world. The Study in India is a flagship project of the Government of India, launched in collaboration with the MoE, MEA, MHA, and MCI in April 2018. While India is a popular destination for its multicultural society, the whopping number of intakes since its launch has allowed the program to further its global identity in the realm of international education.
With India ranked as the third-largest higher education system, home to 45,000 colleges, and 950 universities, Study in India was put together to encourage the global student community to experience quality academic learning from premier NAAC and NIRF accredited institutions in India. The Study in India team noticed that students, aiming at India as a study hub, were looking for practical knowledge, and personal and societal development within and outside the four walls of classrooms.
The Study in India program was integrated by EdCIL (India) Limited, a Miniratna Category-I CPSE company based in India. Launched in April 2018 by the former Minister of External Affairs, late. Smt. Sushma Raj and former Minister of Education (formerly, Human Resource Development) Shri. Prakash Javadekar, the Study in India program receives applications from –SAARC countries, Africa, South East Asia, Central Asia, and the Middle-East.
In an extensive higher education system, the Study in India interface is a prime intermediary for students to explore, connect, and apply to various top-ranked institutions in the country. The program currently offers approximately 55,000 seats with more than 35,500 fee waivers and 2,000 scholarships, with each scholarship valued at INR 250,000. Indian institutes provide technical expertise across a diverse range of courses, from STEM to non-STEM courses, and also include programs in niche disciplines such as Ayurveda, Yoga, and Buddhist Studies. Institutes under the initiative offer waivers from 25% to 100% of the tuition fee. Since the inception of the program, we have partnered with NIRF and NAAC-certified institutions in the country. The eligibility criteria to partner with universities are sacrosanct. We cater to NIRF Top 100 institutes in all categories (except medical institutes), with a NAAC accreditation of 3.26 or above and those which have been empaneled by UGC. All institutes fulfilling these criteria, can partner with Study in India, including Institutes of Eminence and Institutes of National Importance.
In these tough times when the world is ravaged by a pandemic, IITM has shown exactly how to work efficiently and maintain an appreciable teaching-learning ecosystem online. Right after being selected for this course, the Global Engagement Office made sure that I complete the joining formalities and begin my classes at the earliest. After joining, the department through its faculty members and teaching assistants made sure that I cover everything that I had possibly missed. The faculty members are just a mail away from clearing my doubts and are generous enough to keep checking on me themselves. The class hours are arranged such that the students do not feel fatigued after sitting in front of their screens. Since all the lectures are recorded and uploaded, these can be used for future reference as well. The institute has made full use of the online medium by allowing its students to access library resources, journals, e-books and licensed software sitting in the comfort of their homes. It is now over a month since I joined this institution and I have started realizing why this is the top ranked institute in the country. PM Modi rightly said about IITM that this is a place where mountains can move and rivers can become stationary.
