About the Program
India is known as an education hub attracting international students from all over the world. India’s diversity and vibrant history offers a broad range of options for students. In a rapidly growing country on the cutting-edge of the technological revolution, studying in India has much to offer, whether an applicant’s interest lies in Engineering, Computers, Philosophy, Politics, Classics etc.
The Indian Council for Cultural Relations with a mandate of administering scholarship programs of the Government of India annually, awards about 3940 scholarships under 26 different schemes to foreign students from about 140 counties. Amongst these 23 schemes, six are funded by ICCR from its own grant and others are administered on behalf of MEA and the Ministry of Ayush. The courses offered for studies are for under-graduation, post-graduation and M. Phil /PhD levels. In every academic year ICCR sponsors about 6000 + foreign students who are studying at various Central/States University, Institutes, NITs and Agricultural Institutions etc.
In a step forward towards “Digital India” the ICCR developed the “Admissions to Alumni (A2A Portal)” to streamline and make the scholarship work transparent. The portal was launched on January 17, 2018 by the Honorable External Affairs minister late Smt. Sushma Swaraj. With the introduction of the portal from the academic year 2018-19 onwards, ICCR scholarship programs are not only digitized for aspiring foreign students but also have become effortless and transparent offering a wide range of choices to students The portal contains relevant information regarding ICCR sponsored scholarship schemes as well as other information like the names of Indian universities, courses offered by them and guidelines for scholarship schemes etc.
In the academic year 2018-19 approximately 2150 new foreign students have been confirmed for admission in various universities of India.

I have always dreamt about living in a multicultural country and studying at one of the prestigious world class universities. It is a dream that came true when I got a scholarship to pursue my postgraduate studies here in India at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras and I can say that everything has succeeded beyond my expectations. When I arrived on the campus, my very first impression was of a green, peaceful and safe place. The office of Global Engagement welcomed me with open arms and made me feel like home. They have always been supportive of me. Everyone is friendly and respectful. The degree program is flexible and allows students to choose their preferred coursework according to their area of interest and future project or research. Moreover, the combination of theoretical and practical learning provides an invaluable experience and takes a deep dive into the field of study. I like the fact that the class is small so there is more interaction between students and the teachers who are always available and helpful even outside the classroom. I have the opportunity to meet many students not only from all over India but also from different parts of the world and I became friends with many of them. Besides, IIT Madras has all the modern facilities that offer students different services and a wide choice of activities. Studying in a calm and beautiful natural place, while at the same time living in the heart of a big city that is just a few kilometers away from a world-famous beach, I think it is the best combo I ever had in my lifetime. IIT Madras in Chennai is the place to be.
