About us

About Us

Internationalisation is inherent to the mission of IIT Madras and the Office of Global Engagement is committed to realising this mission through a focused approach supported by three verticals which are aligned with the opportunities presented in an increasingly complex and challenging time for the higher education sector.

International Collaborations

International Collaborations

We encourage, maintain and sustain meaningful partnerships with foreign universities and enterprises across the globe. IITM currently has partnerships with over 250 institutions of global repute. Our collaborations are aimed at providing cutting edge research solutions to international challenges and enabling faculty and student exchanges where research interests converge. The Faculty along with the scholars of the various departments of Engineering, Science, Humanities and Management are involved in active research in frontier areas, which results in publications in highly acclaimed International and National Journals. There were over 1,827 research publications published between 2018-19. These publications are also presented in International and National conferences.

The benefits of diversity of thought, better visibility for research, our expertise in India-centric areas, and in certain cases, the ability to solve more ambitious problem statements as a team make this crucial to our internationalisation effort.

The acceptance and ease of online collaboration has led to an increased reach and enabled the enhancement of related activities. We seek to develop multiple co-funded international mobility programs with partner universities and put together rich, meaningful & exciting online programs. We are keen to explore the possibilities of having faculty on roll in the virtual format and extending visits over a semester.

International Academic Programs

We believe that to thrive a student should be armed with the benefits of a culturally diverse experience which empowers them to transcend social and economic boundaries and truly become a world citizen. We strive to provide innovatively taught courses unhindered by geography to meet this need. IITM has 18 Joint Doctoral, 6 Supervision and 2 Masters programs with globally renown partner universities for post graduate students, offers exchange opportunities in a wide range of courses to benefit undergraduates and provides opportunities for internship through its exclusive program GRIESHMA in both the online and physical format.

Students profit from interacting with foreign students and faculty to gain new insights and perspectives while gaining self confidence and going on to be global brand ambassadors.

Of late, online learning has gained increasing acceptance and legitimacy. The vertical aims to leverage the benefits of a global faculty and student pool to increase the scope of our current offerings to include Click and Mortar (blended) programs with short physical contact periods which include exams, increased joint programs for postgraduates and joint project guidance while continuing to develop existing programs.

International Conference Secretariat

International Conference Secretariat

In an increasingly flat world locational differences have ceased to affect our ability to connect with leading academicians, distinguished personalities and shapers of thought in our times. The secretariat organises high quality and high impact conferences that bring together the leading voices from varied fields to a diverse audience.

Within IITM, the secretariat will streamline conference organisation and assist faculty in organising webinars, workshops, symposia, and conferences both nationally and internationally. The support would cover the evaluation of conference proposals, marketing and sponsors, event and venue management and post conference support. These meetings would ideally lead to increased faculty and student mobility, research proposals and the development of Joint programs. The secretariat will host twelve online conferences a year and offer a flipped conference model with flexible keynote lectures.

The conference secretariat aims to make IITM known for its top-notch online conferences and will lead to capacity building for Indians and the whole world.
